After watching the video for "Bad Romance" today and also witnessing people go dance crazy for the song at a club this weekend, I am crowning her my new hero. She's innovative and I truly believe she sees her visions out to reality through her videos and live performances.
She is like a pop version of TOOL and a female version of Marilyn Manson without seeming like she is trying so hard. She embraces excess which is a breath of fresh air in a time when all people talk about is tightening our belts. High fashion and high attitude.
So Thanks Lady Gaga. Keep doin what your doin.

Costume UPDATE

Working on my Cheshire Cat costume for the last few days. I don't have that much to do on it which is good but frustrating cause I want to be making costumes this time of year. I am helping out a few other people though so I'm sure I will have enough to do.
I finished my ears this morning. See..
I look like a raver club kid! haha I really think when people see the Alice in Wonderland crew together they are going to know what I am right away. On my own however I might just look like a pink kitty.
Going to Michael's later with a few friends and even though I am not going for anything specific I'm sure I will come home with a bunch of stuff and a new "project".

ZOMBIE UPDATE!!

ZombieCon date has been set for Saturday October 24th. The zombies will rise to drink, dance and create havoc on NYC streets and subways. So much fun. I really can't say how much I am looking forward to it! My brother and his girlfriend are supposed to come down for it too! Scary, Creeping and Unusual

Throughout my whole life, I've never been one to dress up as something scary for Halloween. For starters, scary movies really really freak me out. I can barely watch Harry Potter without hiding under the covers, forget about Jason and Freddy.
However in between developing my mermaid day costumes for '08 and '07 and going to Zombie Con I realized that scary costumes are really really fun. I am planning on taking my zombie costume from last years Zombie Con and just making it MORE gory and scary than it was before. I am going to basically dye the whole outfit a deep red as if its been saturated with blood then drag it through the mud AKA brown and black paint. The key to getting a good zombie look is adding the right amount of white makeup to your skin to give yourself an unnaturally dead look and then adding black for sunken eyes and cheeks. Of course the finishing touch is fake blood. I prefer a product Stacy and I discovered called "Scab Blood". They sell it at Ricky's and it works best if you apply it with a toothpick or q-tip with the cotton cut off. It really clumps and dries perfectly. After you get base of liquid fake blood where you want it, let it dry and add sporadic "scab blood".
Some people at Zombie Con go with the prosthetic wounds. I find unless applied with a ridiculous amount of Spirit Gum, these things are not going to make the long haul and end up hanging half way off your face. Which I guess for a zombie really isn't that bad! I just wouldn't be able to stand it and would pull it off my face within the first hour.
So in conclusion, even though I am not being something scary for actual Halloween, I am so excited to dress up for Zombie Con on Saturday, October 24th in NYC. Get the word our to your friends!! You won't regret it.

Halloween is almost upon us

I'm beginning to feel the excitement of the approaching holiday. My favorite day of the year. HALLOWEEN! Its already all I can talk about because Halloween is on a Saturday this year. I actually don't have to take the day off AND there will be lots of parties Friday AND Saturday. I might still do 2 costumes this year, but I have not decided on that yet. What I have decided to do is to try to motivate my friends to do a group costume. I've always wanted to dress as a group and this year we might actually pull it off.
The theme is Alice In Wonderland. With the Tim Burton version coming out March 2010 its a fitting theme. However I am going to pull my costume inspiration from the Disney version.I'm going to be Cheshire Cat (Sexy version of course). I love the colors of the Cheshire Cat and his sneaky lingering smile. In order for more people to know that I am the Cheshire Cat, I need the other Alice characters to be with me. Nicole is going to be Queen of Hearts. Erin is going to be Alice and Kevin has agreed to be Mad Hatter if I make his costume. Still looking for someone to be The Caterpillar, White Rabbit, March Hare, Door Mouse or some Cards from the Queens garden.

So on to the execution of my costume. The biggest challenge I think is going to be making his big poofy tail without it looking like a limp rag hanging off my butt. Here is my sketch:

FIGMENT - Coming up

Another art event coming up soon in NYC. Figment will be happening June 12-14th at Governors Island, 5 minutes by ferry off southern tip of manhattan. This is a free event with lots of participation in art and performance. The event is in part organized by Jim Glaser AKA Costume Jim!

What should I wear?!?!?!!?

Friends Needed... Apply Within

At one point in time I had what I would consider a decent amount of friends. Unfortunately the majority of them moved away from NY, leaving me with a sparse group of people to call on the weekends. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to friends, quality outweighs quantity. I do however worry about a few things.
If I were to get married I don't want my side of the aisle to look pathetic.
Also when I'm very old I don't want to be the little old lady who talks to the deli man for a half hour because I'm lonely.
So I might have to pull an "I Love You, Man" and start going on friend dates with potential applicants. Apply within and please bring references.

Sexy Unicorn

As Horned Ball was swiftly approaching, I was a little concerned I would not have enough time to make my costume look better than if I had rolled around in a craft store and wore whatever stuck. However with a little ingenuity and of course a lot of hot glue, I think I pulled it off. Here is the original sketch:

I went to Claire's Boutique to get rainbow hair extensions and just my luck they had RAINBOW clip in BANGS! lol Why someone would need this I dont know, but I love it. I made my horn out of a paper towel roll which I hot glued to a point then I stuck it to a headband and spray painted the whole thing gold. The tail was just a lot of tule and every random ribbon and fake jewel I had in my "Kostume Kloset". I made "hooves" out of some craft foam, painted gold again. I think the look really came together with the face paint. And as always Rule #2 Fake Eyelashes are a must!! Don't forget Rule #1 "More is More." So I threw on my pink shoes from this Halloween's Sexy Flamingo costume and some pink leg warmers.

TA-DA!

So Erin and I went to Horned Ball and danced the night away with all the local crazy/half nude people of Kostume Kult into the wee hours of the morning when I feel asleep with all my makeup on and woke up with an incredible sparkly pillow.
