Group Costume Ideas - Halloween 2013

People can not get enough of group costumes! Turn up the fun to 11 and dress as a group costume this Halloween.
Here are some starting point ideas. Run with it, bring props, soundtracks, dance routines!

Seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)

Ideal for 4 friends but you can always add more people per season.
To do it yourself, head out to your local inexpensive trendy place (i.e. Forever 21, Rainbow, Strawberry) to find cute outfits in appropriate seasonal colors. Then head to Micheal's Craft Store to decorate them. Since their holiday decorating items are already out you will be able to find snowflakes and autumn leaves as well as spring blooms and sunflowers. All are available in their HUGE fake flower section! Make headpieces with a lightweight basic wreath as a base. Do fun glittery makeup. Have Fun!

Bachelorette Party (All Brides Edition)

EASY! Go to the party store, buy all the penis adorned party tiaras you can handle, go out get drunk and scream "whoooo!" all night. People will think you are actually having a bachelorette party. They will ask who the bride and you can all scream "Meeeee bitches!!".

Mean Girls

You could dress like their regular outfits from the movie poster OR..
One girl does Regina George in her "sabotaged" tank top or halo prom queen.
On Wednesday we wear pink.

Gretchen Wieners in her Santa baby outfit
That is so fetch!
Karen Smith as Sexy Mouse
I'm a MOUSE. DUH.
Cady Heron in her Halloween costume
Why are you dressed so scary?
You get the idea. I love that movie!
Don't forget Janice and Damien!

Marvel Superheros
Spirit pop-up Halloween stores are everywhere! I must admit though they have stepped up their game with some very funny and creative new costumes. One really cute new category  I saw is the "sexy" Marvel hero section. Corsets, tutus and booty shorts adorned with your character of choice! I would LOVE to be Sexy Wolverine sometime, sideburns and all. The Spirit Halloween store pictured is on 6th Ave between 32nd and 3rd street by Herald Square. For more locations visit their directory site

Booty Short WITH CAPE!!

These guys are doing it right.

Last one:
BAD Disney Princesses
Fairytale Mugshot
Love this idea. Dress as the Disney Princesses then make mugshot signs with your crime written on them. Cute!

As always I encourage you to tap into your creative side, take these ideas and run like crazy with them!

Love and Tutus,
KostumeGirl

Sock Monkey Costumes

Sock monkeys are a strange crafty icon that just won't go away right? They are cute and quirky and maybe your Grandma made one for you.
I just stumbled across this video from Halloweencostumes.com (What a domain name score!) which combines a silly video of a guy in a Sock Monkey costume with the song
Brass Monkey by my beloved Beastie Boys! It's like the know me!
Anyway its funny and shows how you might need this costume to have a great Halloween. Click here to enjoy. Hope you are compelled to dance around your bedroom like I was. Brass Monkey... That funky Monkey!

Group Costume Ideas for Halloween, Races, Burning Man, etc!

Group costumes get you lots of attention, are tons of fun and WIN costume contests. So gather up your buddies and use some of my group costume ideas to be the best dressed at your costume party, race or event!

Box Of Crayons
This idea was brought to my attention by my good friend Anthony who did it a few years back. It was definitely a crowd pleaser. The best part of this group costume is how easy it is and the color options will never end. Take your primary colors (Red, blue, yellow), add a few complimentary colors (green, purple, pink) and don't forget the shades (white, black, grey). Assign each friend a color and send them to their closets or a thrift store to find an outfit completely in that color. I know for a fact Walmart and Michael's craft stores have solid bright colored inexpensive t-shirts. You could even take a shirt with graphics on it and turn it inside out. After you find matching shirts and pants then make pointy hats for everyone. Using craft foam from Michaels you could easily make hats or even buy those mini road cones and then spray paint them. Like I said this group costume has unlimited options for colors so if you want to go for the Crayola 64 pack, go for it!

80's Prom
So easy for a group of guys and gals to head on over to the local Goodwill to find outdated formal attire or perhaps you still have some in the deep recesses of your very own closet. Think of all those unloved poofy sleeved bridesmaid dresses that need you to give them a second life! Then stop at the drug store for a can of Aquanet and a crimper. Add corsages and buteneers and Ta-Da! You are ready to dance to Flock of Seagulls and Depeche Mode all night. Don't forget to slow dance awkwardly at any party you go to. Request that they play a Richard Marx to really set the mood. Pose for ever picture in a prom photo type way.

Rockettes

Your and your friends are hot. Is a fact. You want to show off your long sexy legs in a way that will get you majorly noticed. I present to you the New York City Radio City Music Hall Rockettes!! Every girl I know who saw the Christmas Spectacular came home obsessed with forming a kick line. I believe Leg Venue sells a Santa Baby costume that will do quite nicely or you could go for the outfit from the Toy Soldier number. Remember to do your hair up the same and wear the exact same shade of lipstick. Perhaps there is a male friend of yours who would like to be Santa. Practice your kick line cause it's going to bring the house down!!

Jazzercise Class

Remember the exercise craze that totally took over in the 80s? Well you may not be old enough but this will be a fun one. Must haves: leg warmers or scrunch socks, head bands, big hair, leotards, spandex shorts, lots of eye makeup. If it is in the budget go to American Apparel. Their spandex section is out of control. See if you can find some pink 1 lbs weights or a Thigh Master. Designate the class leader and start warming up at the party. Bonus points if you can find a pair of L.A. Gears to wear. For inspiration watch the video for Eric Prydz's song Call on Me or the SNL digital short Body Fuzion.

Mormons
Guys, I haven't forgotten about you! The hottest play on Broadway these days is The Book of Mormon. Such an easy group costume and funny cause they usually do travel in packs. Get a white dress shirt, tie, dorky backpack, name tag (Brother James, Brother Thaddius) and don't forget your trusty Book of Mormon.

I hope these ideas give you inspiration to do a group costume this year. Send me some picture with your results!

Half way to Halloween 2011 and Group Costume Ideas

Boys and Girls, We are at the half way point to Halloween 2011!!

How exciting! I keep a running list all year long of costume ideas because otherwise I could forget one I had in February and that would be terrible. Also people often ask me what they should be and I'll have spare ideas on hand. I will give a sneak preview of the list of group costumes I've been scheming up in a minute and I'm not worried about people stealing my ideas cause, my costume will be way better than theirs anyway.

First however, something I read about on Bridget Marquardt's Twitter. You may know her as one of Hef's original girlfriends on The Girls Next Door and if you watched the show you know she is a huge fan of Halloween. What I love about her is her costumes are incredibly sexy but better than just the old hot nurse outfit. Sexy costumes are more than just knee high socks, People! In April she hosted a "Half Way to Halloween Party" in Vegas as a dead bride. She also recently joined up with sexy costume company Roma to release a line of adult Halloween costumes. They made a spooky mini movie to give a peek at the 17 new designs. Check it out here. Very cute take on some old classics and new favorites. I love the Ring Leader (so totally Britany) and the Mermaid.

Alright so back to the running list of costume ideas.

Sexy Horse Jockeys-
Group costume opportunity! Silky colorful cleavage bearing tops, tight white leggings, riding boots, riding crops (you know that will get fun as the night goes on), cute riding helmets, those horses on a stick. Think of the fun races you could have throughout the night! You could name your horses sexy names too like Sexy Secretariat, High Ho Silver or Mr. Head! Good for groups of ladies AND men.

Toddlers & Tiaras-
My friend Nicole and I came up with this one while watching the TLC show (I can't get enough). It is another fabulous opportunity for a group costume. Big over glitzed dresses with ruffles, huge hair and too much makeup. Comically oversized trophies and tiaras and don't forget the "talent" portion of the competition. Make sure each contestant has a number pinned to their dress or people might just think you are a bunch of Tami Fay Bakers. Dress the guys in bad hair and terrible Walmart clothing and they can be the Show-Moms.

Sexy Caterpillars from Alice in Wonderland with the smoke "who" "R" "U" -
This one is good for you if you happen to be the creative make your own costume gal with the lazy what-should-I-be-friends. Your probably going to have to make the caterpillar outfit cause I've never seen one in Ricky's. But for the friends, a black shirt and pants with the letters made of cotton balls or batting glued to the front of the shirts. Don't carry around a real hookah though, that's a bad idea. Also maybe have one person be Alice so people will get it right away.

The only group costume I've ever participated in was Alice in Wonderland in 2009. I was the Cheshire Cat. It was great cause Halloween was on a weekend so "Alice" and I went out Friday and Saturday with slightly different groups of people. I made the Cheshire Cat costume with lots of face paint and faux fur. Also its good that I work at a hosiery company cause those tights aren't that easy to find! It wasn't the worlds most original group costume, but it was at least before Tim Burton's Wonderland came out and everyone was going the Johnny Depp Mad Hatter

Ok so there you have it, a couple ideas to get the creative juices flowing. Start planning early in October with a group of people cause its going to be hard to agree on a bar or party. Believe me though, go out with a well done group costume and you are going to get lots of attention and maybe even win a contest!
