So FreaKKshow came and went. There was a ton of effort put into this party from a lot of different people. I went to the event space the day before the party and thought to myself, "How the hell are they going to pull this off?!" See photo on Right
I underestimated people who are determined to party down. Everything was built, painted, decorated, sound systemed and ready to go by Saturday. When I returned it looked great!

My crew (Erin, Jacob, Tony and I) got ready at my place in Queens then headed over to the party later in the evening. Unfortunately I thought we would be able to buy tickets at the door instead of go all the way to the bar and take the shuttle. A whole bunch of cab rides and frustration later, I understood that was not an option. I'm sure they have their legal reason, but come on. My house was closer to the party location! Whatever.
So I actually recycled a costume for this party which normally I am against but with Burning Man coming up I need to conserve money and creative resources for other costumes. I wore my feathered corset that I made for Flamingo - Halloween 2009 and my top hat which always comes in handy. I got the top hat at Build-A-Bear workshop in Albany, NY way before it was a cute Goth/Lolita thing to wear.Our group was very circusy (new word I just made up). We had a ring master, two elephant rider/tightrope walker girls and a really scary clown. When we got to the party it was pretty much in full swing. DJs blasting music outside, lots of people at the bar being served by the lovely Evolution.

We wandered over to the giant green pickle structure to meet the guys of Metropickle. Here's Jacob, Trevor and I doing a Pickle Back. Which is whiskey followed by a shot of pickle juice. It was actually very tasty if you can get through the first part! They will be on the Playa supplying salty pickle goodness to all Burners. I am definitely visiting them out there.


So we danced, enjoyed the art and performances, I got too drunk, etc. Here are a few more pictures from my camera and a link to my friend Sergio's photos which are really great and capture the feel of the event.

Party on a BOAT! This weekend August 14, 2010

Disorient a fellow NY camp is throwing a fund raising party for Burning Man this weekend and its sure to be a fun/wild event.
All of their other boat parties have sold out so this one should be a great one as well.

Camping... I'm not a pro.

So I did a test run of my tent last night in the living room to see if I will even be able to put it up by myself!

I guess this camping thing isn't that hard after all. I mean I have been camping before, but I could count the number of times on 1 hand. Getting the tent BACK into a bag is the hardest part anyway.

There is so much planning, buying and packaging that must be done far before the actual Burn. Today I bought my plastic tub that I will be packaging and putting in the shipping container that leaves in the beginning of August. I want to try to get as much as I can in there. First of all so I have less to carry on the plane and also so my tub is very solid and will not be crushed if it ends up at the bottom of the shipping container. I got this one at Home Depot for about $16 in a lovely orange color! Its a 37 gallon tub so I will need to buy 5 cubic feet on the shipper.

Calling all Burners!

This Thursday, Nyrvana Village and friends presents "Chill Lounge" a community mixer at Love from 7pm til 2am (with venue open til 4) for all those involved in the NYC Burning Man scene...

Called "Chill Lounge" because the venue just had their AC upgraded, this is a fundraiser for the Animus arts collective where all profits from the bar go to support their "Honeytrap" piece destined for the playa this year. http://animusart.com/current-projects/the-honey-trap/... Yes, Love's management is still feeling bad that Animus's party got shut down earlier this year so everything above the basic operating expenses will go to support this piece in getting to the burn.

So, please all newbies, oldbies, those who are playa-bound or not, are encouraged to come on down, share burn stories and have a few drinks for the Honeytrap.... Help the wide-eyed newbies get their plan straight! And per this "chill" night, no costumes required--- come out and chill!

My New Hero!

Ok, I didn't actually see this woman in person at the Mermaid Day Parade, but once I went online looking for pictures, she was everywhere!
I am super impressed with the engineering of her peacock tail. From the looks of the pictures, she was able to fan and unfan it. However I'm sure by the end of the parade route her arms were tired from holding it up. Bet it was worth it though. She looks amazing and vibrantly colorful in every picture. Inspired!
