NYC Santacon is Saturday December 13th 2014

As a veteran of many Santacons past and a featured costumer on Buzzfeed's 31 DIY Costume Ideas to Rock for Santacon (Hint I'm #16), I've watch the event grow and change into the massive happening it is these days. While its loved by participants and hated by neighborhood watches it will go on this year on Saturday December 13th beginning at 10am. Here are a few thoughts on what Santacon was intended to be and how you should NOT behave at Santacon.

We're all in this together. #dontscroogesantacon
Santacon is a special once a year holiday event. It was not created by a marketing company and never sponsored by a soft drink. It's a social happening. It's a gathering of festive people to share a Christmas experience through costumes and merriment. Santa wants the creative spirit of this event to live on and keep growing forever so do your part to make sure the magic continues.

Don't let the excitement of Santacon get the best of you! Here are a few things to keep in mind as we get ready to celebrate this most special event in Santa's favorite city. Keep your naughty list behavior in check. Your fantastic festive outfit should NOT include a brown paper bag. Remind all the elves in your party that we are here to spread cheer not litter. Children stop believing too early these days and we are Santa's merry representatives. Make the old jolly fellow proud! Pause and think, "What would Santa do?". Kids will want to interact with you. Please engage with them but remember to use kid-friendly language and never elude to the fact that Santa may not be real. While we may act like we are frolicking up in the North Pole we are in fact still very much in the real world, a world that is experiencing real world problems right now. Please follow ALL laws and be kind and respectful to ALL law enforcement and venue security personnel. Santa doesn't need to remind you that bathrooms are the only place you should be relieving yourself at Santacon. A public urination ticket is the ultimate lump of coal in your stocking. Take a break to feed the reindeer! Refuel the sleigh and your stomach as they day goes on. Ho-Ho-Hydrate! Follow these easy guidelines and your Santacon will be the merriest yet!

Think back to the feelings of magic and crazy excitement Christmas brought to you as a child. Santacon is about recapturing the mystery and wonder of Santa you felt when you still believed. Santacon is about playing good old fashioned reindeer games, singing Christmas carols, giving gifts and spreading whimsy. Santacon is a way to kick your holiday cheer up a notch and share the spirit with NYC. So spread the joy and enjoy all the smiles you will create. Happy Santacon!!

Spooky Cool Fake Eyelashes for Halloween

I spotted these lashes on twitter today and thought I would share them. Most cobweb lashes are too heavy and inflexible to work well and look good but these look really delicate and pretty!

They are made by Eylure and be found at TopShop.com where they cost $12 and there is currently free shipping!

Kostume Kult presents Black & Light Ball 2014 : Haute Kulture May 10, 2014

As we roll into what we burners call Pre-Burn season (nobody calls it that) its time once again for our classiest of affairs known as the Black & Light Ball! A very cool, very UV reactive event featuring all the high class, upper crust costumers of the NYC area. All are invited, all are welcome, all are black lit for an evening of fun, art, dancing and glowing good times.

Check out the event page for more details and to buy TICKETS. Getting them early not only gets your a better price (CHEAPER) but it also ensures you will not be left outside the doors while the party glows on into the night at our venue in Manhattan

Once again we have searched near and far to bring the best DJs possible for this special event.
DJs in two rooms include:
Matt Hardinge (Motek)
Soul Mob (Ospina Digital/Slur/Worship/Soul Mob Productions)
WhiteOwlJaguar (Disco Fist/Talon & Claw)
Rhenalt (Rebel Eye/Nervous)

Tektite (Vitamin B/Blackbird Squadron)
Beatkitty (Kostume Kult/Kismet)
Havok (Osiris/Snap Music)
Jeffrey Dommer (NYC Tribe/Fire Triangle)

Now you are excited! What do I wear??!? Don't panic. I'm hear to help you through this. There is a world of UV reactive materials to make a costume with and above all we just want you to come enjoy the fun.

Here are some things I have found glow very well in black light and can be used for costumes:
Fluorescent yarn (Red Heart brand) The pink glows like crazy.
Paper!
Neon Poster board (Dollar store- CHA-CHING!)
Neon craft paint (mini bottles at Michael's are about $1 each. Use multiple coats for better results)
Neon zip ties (Home Depot)

So go on an inspirational shopping trip and don't get over whelmed. Start with a hat or a blazer from the thrift store. Get crafty. Use your glue gun! Here are some photos from past Black & Light Balls. Hehe Balls.
Check out my Pinterest board for costume & makeup inspiration.

Black & Light Ball is Kostume Kult's springtime Burning Man fund raiser for our theme camp. We appreciate you coming out to have a great time and help us spread the costume love at the burn this year.

Kostume Kult presents Horned Ball 10: Red Planet 4.4.14

Kostume Kult Presents
HORNED BALL #10 RED PLANET -
A Retro-Futuristic Martian Fantasy-Scape

CREDITS: Collaged elements from Boris Vallejo, Joe Jusko and
John Carter of Mars & Jane Fonda

A place of lost legends, the 5th planet once teemed with strange life
and great civilization.  Our galaxy's first eden which came of age
whilst earth wriggled with earliest life.  An alien place where
intelligent beings mixed with savage, horned beasts.  Aqueducts
crisscrossed the surface while cave cities grew underground.
Some believe that life still remains... Biding its time.

In the tradition of artists Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Joe Jusko
and others, this year we present a place of otherworldly evolution,
fierce costumery and unapologetic hotness. In this lesser gravity --
jump higher, dance harder and last longer. It's the 10th Annual
Horned Ball and the countdown is on...
